EGT wins Worksafe Gold Certificate of Achievement Award

Electrical Group Training recently won the Worksafe Plan Gold Certificate of Achievement Award for 2010. A fantastic effort to follow up on last year’s Silver Award. EGT’s Board Chairman Mr Garry Itzstein was presented the award at the NECA Excellence Awards function on Friday 20 August by Mr Brian Bradley, Director General of the Department of Commerce (pictured below).

This result is the culmination of over three years consistent and dedicated work by EGT OSH and Operations staff and leadership from the EGT Board.

“I am thrilled by this outstanding result, which could not be achieved without the input and effort from all staff, apprentices and host employers” said Stuart Diepeveen. “Thank you to all staff, hosts and apprentices who have implemented and worked within our systems and a big thank you to all those hosts,

Electrical Group Training supports WA Football

THE largest employer of electrical apprentices in Western Australia has plugged into the WA Football community by signing a new sponsorship agreement for the next 12 months.

Electrical Group Training has provided a consistent supply of high quality, skilled employees since 1988 as a not-for-profit group training organization.

EGT employs and up-skills apprentices and trainees within the electro-technology industry and places them with a variety of hosts so they can gain a wide range of on the job experience.

Commencing with just 12 apprentices, EGT now has over 700 apprentices working across a range of areas. Over 400 host employers provide EGT apprentices and trainees with on the job training, while off the job training is delivered by the College of Electrical Training.

Partnering with WA Football will expose EGT opportunities to a huge number of potential new apprentices and trainees, with over 120,000 participants involved in football around the state each weekend, including numerous young men and women considering an electrical apprenticeship.

NECA WA Management Committee 2010/11

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has declared the following persons elected to the Management Committee of NECA WA for the next 12 months - please click here to view names.

NECA thanks them all for all the time they devote to the organisation. They all serve the organisation on a strictly voluntary basis, so we are grateful for their input and oversight.

Electrical Inspection Forms Now Available

NECA and the Government have been working urgently on developing the required form for use when testing a foil insulation installation under the Government’s former Home Insulation Program (HIP).

This form has now been approved by the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and is available for use. It is now on the Department’s website - please click here.

Please however continue to note our commentary (reported last week here) that NECA strongly advises members to seriously consider whether doing these inspections is worthwhile given the financial and safety risks.

Blake McCarthy wins Australian Apprentice of the Year!

At the recent 2009 Australian Training Awards held in Canberra, Blake McCarthy of Electrical Group Training (EGT - part of the NECA WA Group), won Australian Apprentice of the Year.

This is a fantastic achievement for Blake and it highlights the exceptional standard of apprentices coming through EGT in recent times.

Blake is currently working with Host Employer, WA Water Corporation.

A firm believer in lifelong learning, Blake holds more than 10 certificates and qualifications, including first aid, heights training and engineering.

After gaining his electrical trade certificate and electrician’s licence earlier this year, he has become a valuable member of the Water Corporation’s engineering and construction services branch.

Blake’s enthusiasm and desire to excel saw him finish his apprenticeship six months ahead of schedule and earn second place in the 2008 EGT Fourth Year Apprentice of the Year award.

Blake loves the outdoors and is an active member of the Armadale Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, where he is on call around the clock.

Well done Blake.
